EBDA is actively supporting its farming members and member companies to comply with national and international regulations of sustainable farming and processing.

Demeter

Demeter is a standards certifying biodynamic production and processing, established by the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International, the largest certification organization for biodynamic agriculture. The Demeter Biodynamic certification is used in over 65 countries to verify that biodynamic products meet international standards in production and processing. It has higher standards than organic agriculture, since biodynamic agriculture looks at the bigger picture and tries to put back to the ecosystem more than it extracts.

EU organic

The EU-organic production regulation is a part of the European Union regulation that sets rules about the production of organic agricultural products and how to label them. These regulations are updated regularly, and are derived in their principles from the guidelines of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), which is an association of about 800 member organizations in 119 countries.

Economy of Love

Economy of Love is a certification standard for products that are sustainable, ethical and transparent throughout the supply chain. The standard was initiated by the Egyptian Biodynamic Association, and has the purpose to recognize sustainable farmers and companies by ensuring that every person across the supply chain is fairly compensated and protected from exploitation, and that every interaction all along the chain insures the respect, trust and compassion towards people and nature.

National Organic Program - NOP

The National Organic Program (NOP) is the federal regulatory framework governing organic agriculture and food in the United States of America, and protecting the integrity of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) organic seal.

Bio Suisse

Bio Suisse is a private guideline equivalent to the Swiss Ordinance on organic farming and goes beyond its scope to include additional requirements related to plant protection, animal feed processing and social standards. Bio Suisse Is the main organization of organic agriculture in Switzerland, it manages the organic label “Bio Suisse” and counts several organic farmers’ associations and the research institute of organic agriculture FiBL.

Fairtrade

Fair trade is one of the most recognized and trusted sustainability label in the world, it serves as an alternative to conventional trade and is based on the partnership between producers and consumers with the goal of improving lives and reducing poverty through ethical trade practices. Fair trade is designed to support the sustainable development of small producer organization and agricultural workers through setting a holistic blend of economic, social and environmental criteria.
